Campus Safety & Security
Safety & Security
To provide a safe learning and working environment, Kishwaukee College contracts with the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office to provide campus security services. On campus, DeKalb County Sheriff’s deputies have full police authority, including that of arrest, granted by the Illinois General Assembly under 110 ILCS 685/30-45(11) in DeKalb County. Reports of criminal activities on campus are investigated by the Campus Security Office/DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office in cooperation with appropriate federal, state, and local authorities. The Sheriff’s Office also works closely with the Director of Campus Safety & Security, who provides administrative oversight for the College’s emergency management preparation, training, and other safety and security initiatives.
Reporting a Crime or Emergency
Students, faculty, staff and community members are strongly encouraged to report criminal activity, suspicious circumstances or persons, and accidents in an accurate and timely manner. For on-campus emergencies and reporting of crimes, immediately call:
- 911 — for police, fire, or medical emergency. Or ext. 9529 for the on-campus DeKalb County Sheriff from any College phone
- 815-825-9529 — for the on-campus DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office from a cell phone
Reporting a Non-Emergency Student of Concern
Report an observation or concern for a student exhibiting personal wellness, mental health, unusual behavior or other issues requiring attention through the Student of Concern Form.
For additional reporting, find the appropriate forms on Kish's File a Report or Complaint page.
Annual Security Report
To maintain a safe campus environment and to comply with section 485 of the Higher Education Act of 1965, as amended, known as the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Act — and the State of Illinois Campus Security Act 88-629 (110 ILCS 12/1-12/99) — Kishwaukee College publishes an Annual Security Report on security policies, procedures and campus crime statistics. You can view a copy of the College's 2022 Annual Security Report in PDF format.
A hard copy of the Annual Security Report is available from the Director of Campus Safety & Security in C2177. The report contains this current catalog section, on-campus security policies and procedures, and reports criminal offenses occurring on campus and at authorized off-campus activities.
A daily crime log is available for review at the on-campus DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office, C2177. The information in the crime log may include the nature, date, time, general location and disposition of each crime.
